5g Wireless Specifications Approved – Official Details

It’s finally official that we are going to witness 5G wireless services and the first announcement has come up from 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). 3GPP had officially
gave their approval for the hardware specifications for the Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G New Radio (NR) standards. Specs are said to be confirmed at the meeting of the 3GPP group in Lisbon, Portugal.

Twitter page of 3GPP has tweeted about the approval of HSA 5G wireless specs on December 21st, 2017. The group has given their support for low, mid, and high-band spectrum, from below 1 GHz to about 50 GHz. Detailed specifications of them will be updates shortly in their official website.

3GPP Live tweet :- “NSA 5G NR specs were approved today at RAN#78. Balazs Bertenyi , RAN Chair called it “an Impressive achievement in a remarkably short time, with credit due particularly to the Working Groups”. News article to follow on the 3GPP site and from 3GPP Member announcements.”

Intel, Qualcomm and others are in schedule of making 5G wireless products and components. While complete specs about Standalone (SA) 5G might be detailed in 2018 June.

Sprint 5G plans are given its official press note as :-

The specification includes bandwidths up to 100 MHz for an n41 (2.5 GHz) single component carrier vs. today’s 20 MHz per component carrier for 4G LTE. With more than 160 MHz of 2.5 GHz spectrum available in the top 100 U.S. markets, this gives Sprint the largest nationwide block of sub-6 GHz 5G spectrum available for wide-scale use in the U.S.

Sprint’s initial path to market for 5G will be through the deployment of 2.5 GHz Massive MIMO radios slated for commercial use in 2018. These 64T64R (64 transmitters, 64 receivers) radios will be software-upgradable to 5G NR.
